596. Don’t quit your “IT”

Leaving his father to start his own shoe company, people often ask Kenneth Cole, ”What would have done if ‘IT’ didn’t work? ”What I didn’t tell people was that I never knew what IT was.” What is your IT? 600 episodes into The Sales Life Podcast I still don’t know what IT is. 22+ years later I’m not sure what IT is in sales. & maybe that’s a good thing. Because IT gives me something to chase after. What’s your takeaways from today’s episode? Text me @ 337-565-0906 Show your ❤️ by sharing...

595. The episode that never was. 7 valuable lessons when I forgot to hit record.

Today’s episode is HUGE! (Youuuge as some people say) A book that made an impression in my Sales Life was Mark Hunter’s book, “A Mind for Sales.” Mark & I got a chance to talk about the book, the profession, & the lifestyle of sales on Friday the 13th knife Only I forgot to hit record. Not only was I 10 minutes late (because I joined the wrong Zoom link) & kept one of the top sales influencers waiting, but I had a whole conversation and made the biggest blunder of all. What was I to do? Shoul...

593. Be wanting not needy

this week we’re closing out actor Matthew McConaughey’s book “Greenlights.” (I highly recommend by the way) Running low on cash, McConaughey asked for a off-handed favor while finishing his steak. “Can you get me a meeting with an agent because I need some work.” The guy snapped & taught McConaughey a valuable lesson, “If Hollywood senses you‘re needy, you’re done before you even start. Get out of town & don’t come back until you are ready to not need it..” From that point on, Matthew McConau...

592. Get your pickup truck mentality back

You know it’s a good book when only partially through it, you grab the mic and do a podcast episode on what you’ve read so far! That’s what actor Matthew McConaughey’s book “Greenlights” is for me. (Why the title Greenlights? Well you gotta listen & I’ll tell you 😉) We pick up in McConaughey’s senior year in high school. Straight A’s, great golfer, & voted most handsome, Matthew was on top of the world. To add to his on-topness he bought a red Nissan 300ZX with T-tops, but as the weeks passed...

591. Skids & Ruts? You’ve got mismanaged memory.

If anyone asks you what you do for a living, tell them that you own a bank. You are in charge of what gets deposited & withdrawn from your memory bank. If your Confidence in yourself & your abilities is low, it’s due to “mismanaged memory.” When your confidence is low you‘re only focused on the losses so it’s no wonder you keep getting more losses because you’re feeding on losses, blames, should’ves giving you insufficient funds of success. A loss may be deposited as a loss, but it won’t stay...

590. Be a student of “when.”

When you learn “how” to do something you move on to the next “how,” but ”when” is the perfect time to take that leap? Today we’re riffing out of the co-founder of Square (the little card reader that swipe’s your credit card on a mobile device) Jim McKelvey’s great book “The Innovation Stack.” If you’ve found yourself stalling, waiting for the time to be just right remember this... ”Right feels early.” _____________________________________ What did you think about today's episode? 589. For all those difficult situations in your life. You need a script

Nina Sossamon-Pogue‘s dreams of going to the Olympics was crushed due to a career ending injury. She went on to become voted Top News Anchor for 9 years straight, but was suddenly fired just to clear the books. Getting her bearings again she became top news anchor in another market, yet it came to a halt after tragically running over a little boy. You may have had it bad, but Nina Sossamon-Pogue has had it worse. Yet she didn’t let ”THIS” moments end her. Nor should you. How do you recover fro...

But what about the times when you don’t ”have to?” The times when you take it easy & you were still ok. 586. You took the Loss, but did you take the Lessons?

Life is full of loss, but Life too is rich with lessons within the loss. While reading Patrick Bet- David’s book, “Your Next Five Moves,” I stumbled across the quote, “If you’re going to lose, don’t lose the lessons.” Today we pull on that thread. How many times have you been so emotionally wrapped up in your losses that you fail to capture the bountiful lessons (wins) within the loss?

585. Survivor's Guilt & Are you working to "Stay" or "Separate?"

Many people have sat across the desk from me who have lost everything due to the devastating Hurricane Laura that ripped Lake Charles, LA apart. "How'd you come out?" is now the new "How are you doing?" around here & I've struggled with the answer. ________________________________________________________________________ Inky Johnson asked the question and I ran with it, "Are you working to stay within the pack or are you working to separate?" __________________________________________________...

584. You’re there for the Yea-but’s

The Yea-but’s are the voices of doubt that run contrary to what’s been written or diagramed. Coaches have to coach players through the Yea-but’s. Parents have to caution children through the Yea-but’s & Salespeople have to guide their customers through the Yea-but’s. When the Yea-but’s rise up, will you be there to counter the challenge? Stay amazing. Stay in The Sales Life.

583. Stop saying “I’m sorry” for no reason

One of my favorite podcasts & people to follow is Heather Monahan. She’s got such great energy & has no problem sharing her scars along with her scars. As a single parent, Monahan found herself on a course for reinvention after suddenly being fired from an executive position. They actually did her a favor 😉. Monahan is a rock star in her own right & today she owns her life & is more successful than ever. Today we are riffing from Chapter 7 of Monahan’s book “Confidence Creator.” How often do y...

582. Play through to your Who

In his book, “Built To Serve” Evan Carmichael has a chapter titled, “This Will Be Tough.” I needed to read this chapter while my hometown recovers from a devastating Category 4 Hurricane that has destroyed our area. The people you don’t meet. The things you don’t accomplish. The person you never become is all due to your Who. Who are you?

581. 3 Stages of Resiliency

Coming to shore with 150 MPH winds Hurricane Laura has devastated my hometown & forever altered the lives of my friends & family. Our faith will be tested and our resiliency will be forged. It’s important to keep written & verbal notes so that you can reference back in the storms of your life. On his podcast, “Finding Mastery,” Michael Gervais said that there are 3 stages of Resiliency: 1) Meet the challenge 2) Stay in the moment 3) Control the controllables. 579. Accept. Agree. Admit. Deliver

Gina Trimarco is an Improv Specialist. One of the key fundamentals to Improv is accepting what the other person says-even if you don't agree. How many friendships have been lost or blocked due to one person posting something that the other person doesn't agree with? I think about how many deals I've blown because I was so fixated on being right. "Big Town USA has you beat on price!" Salespeople hear that 1000 times/month. I don't have to agree, but I can accept. Today's episode is a superpow...

577. The under & extra to your ORDINARY

A friend of mine called me excitedly to tell me he was about to open his first business. Coming from a broken home, small town & so broke, he had to scrape quarters to buy gas, he never thought he‘d be where he was today. Think of everything that you’ve had to fight to get to where you are today.... They weren’t discounts...they were dividends.

576. You’re losing anyway, so why not 🤷‍♂️

“Omg when I get out of this slump?” says everyone. In those pressure-packed moments all you can think about is what went wrong & when will it ever be right again...right? Hall of Fame Major League Baseball player Cal Ripken, Jr. says to use the losing moments to try something new. What a radical way of looking at the losing moments. Instead of crumbling under the pressure of winning again, use the moments to try something you’ve been wanting to try...but never did. 🙏 THANK YOU for listening t...
