Slumps are THE worst. One minute you had it going on, and in what feels like the next century, you are smelling your breath and underarms in an effort to figure out what happened.
Slumps happen to us all-their inevitable, and although you can't be slump free, you can slump less and minimize the time you are in the ditch.
Imagine going 0-27 in the big leagues. On @Coach_Schultz podcast Patrick Jones said he tried every superstition to get out of his horrendous slump.
The only way he got out of his slump was with a, "🤬uck it" mentality.
The only way to play is BCA. Bold. Confident. Aggressive.
Understand, slumps aren't immediate; they come about gradually. Success can make you lose your hunger and grow complacent. You come in a little later. Leave a little earlier and rationalize each lazy day away.
Then there's the mental toll.
Slumps don't just make you 2nd guess yourself; they make you 20th...40th...200th time guess yourself. And the millisecond the current situation looks similar to previous ones, you lump it in as a loss and say, "Oh no, here I go again."
You didn't get in a slump all at once, nor will you get out of it all at once. You hope that one desperate, big swing will make it all go away.
But it will start to diminish with a BCA mentality.
Step into your situation: Bold. Confident. Aggressive.
Bold: Don't pad your expected rejection by using filler words such as, "I was thinking, kinda, like, um..."
Hell no. Before your mind has a chance to talk you out of it, ask in as few words as possible. If the answer is no, shift perspectives & offer a different viewpoint.
Confident: Confidence is earned, not given. You can't go undefeated in life, nor will you stay defeated unless you do (nothing) to make it so. The only way out of your slump is through action. Period. Keep swinging. Keep asking. Chop wood. Carry water. Keep a "next" mentality."
Aggressive: Aggressive doesn't mean you mow over everyone in your sight, it means that you internally push yourself and don't pull your punch. Persistently Jab. Jab. Right hook.
Even when you're frustrated and losing, stay neutral-faced. Don't let your expression be the reason why you lose.
Oh, and shut up! Don't recap your story to others who don't care.
Lastly, keep a professional mentality. An 0-27 streak feels like a lifetime for an amateur, but an 0-27 streak for a pro, is only a week. There's always next.
Get out of your head & back into action. The only way to play is BCA.
