What's The Use? (It Won't Make A Difference Anyway.)

Have you ever caught yourself asking, "What's the use?" What's the use of saving money if it's not enough? What's the use of working out if you don't see results? What's the use of reading, practicing, or making one more attempt when it feels like nothing is changing? In this episode, I challenge one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves: that effort is only worthwhile if it produces immediate results. I share a different way to think about progress. Have you ever caught yourself asking, "What's the use?"

What's the use of saving money if it's not enough? What's the use of working out if you don't see results? What's the use of reading, practicing, or making one more attempt when it feels like nothing is changing?

In this episode, I challenge one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves: that effort is only worthwhile if it produces immediate results.

I share a different way to think about progress. You're not in the results business—you're in the elimination business. Every time you make the effort, you eliminate a temptation to quit, procrastinate, or cope. You eliminate the assumptions that tell you you already know how the story ends.

The outcome will come in its own time. Your job is to keep removing the things that stand in its way.

If you've ever felt stuck, discouraged, or wondered if your efforts even matter, this episode will help you reframe the conversation you're having with yourself—and give you a reason to keep going.

Keep it simple. Keep it moving. Never settle. Stay tough.

What's the use? You ever caught yourself saying that? What's the use in saving a hundred bucks? It's not gonna make a difference anyway. What's the use in reading today and bettering myself? I'm never gonna get the promotion anyway. What's the use in working out? I'm never gonna lose the weight. What's the use in making a few more phone calls before I leave? Everybody else is already snuck out of here early. They're just gonna tell me no anyway. See, we have all had those negotiations with ourselves. And why? It's because we're measuring today's effort against an assumed outcome. We think we know how it's gonna play out. And because we think we know how it's gonna play out, we're like, what's the use? And so we pull up. You have to remember you're in the elimination business. The effort's not about the outcome. The outcome's gonna be what the outcome's gonna be. You can't control the outcome, but you can heavily influence it if you take the mindset that you're in the elimination business. And the only way to eliminate is through effort. The effort is about eliminating the things that are keeping you from the outcome. So every time that you make the effort, you're eliminating temptations and prejudices. The temptation is to just sulk and stay the way that you are. The temptation is to just procrastinate. I'll just double up tomorrow. I'll start Monday. These theme days we have. I'll start next week. I'll start next month. I'll start at the first of the year. See, we just keep pushing off. That's the procrastination. The temptation to cope instead of confront. The temptation to sulk in your feelings instead of taking ownership. See, every effort removes the distraction. That's those temptations. So through the elimination business, you're removing temptation, but you're also removing prejudices. Prejudices are the assumptions. You're basing your assumption on what you think the outcome's gonna be. You don't know. You may be looking at how things were, but this is this is how things are. And you don't know what that outcome is gonna be. You're basing everything based on the past, not based on if I take this effort. And so you say, like, what's the use? No. Every time you make the effort, you're eliminating the prejudices. You have no clue how this is gonna turn out. You sit there and negotiate with yourself, like it's not gonna make a difference. I'm never gonna get promoted. I'm never gonna get out of debt. I'm never gonna lose weight. You're assuming an outcome that hasn't even happened yet. I'm not talking about the past. I'm talking about moving forward from here. I would rather know than assume. Like, prove it. Prove it. Do it consistently and prove it. So when you catch yourself at these crossroads, like you start feeling sorry for yourself, or it seems like just you can't win for losing, and you sit there and shoulder shrug and you say, Man, what's the use? You have to remember you're in the elimination business. You're eliminating temptation and prejudices, which are your assumptions. So you just got to keep making the effort because every temptation that you eliminate is gonna make you more disciplined. Every assumption that you eliminate is gonna make you more consistent. And that discipline and that consistency is what's going to heavily influence the outcome. Remember the timeline you're on, eventually and ultimately. So even when you don't get the outcome that you want at that time, you don't look at anything from a one-to-one ratio anymore. You just say, I'm in the elimination business. I'm building discipline, I'm building consistency, I'm eliminating temptation, I'm eliminating assumptions. Remember the timeline you're on. Eventually and ultimately. You keep your mindset in the elimination business. I'm eliminating temptations and distractions. You keep doing this, eventually, the scales are gonna tip and ultimately you're gonna succeed. When it comes to change, man, there's no negotiation, no matter what. Don't worry about the outcome. Outcome's gonna take care of itself. Stay in the elimination business. Keep it simple, keep it moving, never settle, stay tough. Peace.
