I was reading "Born of This Land" by Chung Ju-Yung, the founder of Hyundai, and one passage stopped me, causing me to whip out my legal pad and really think it through.

 “When a small idea, the size of a grain of rice, is implanted in my mind, I nurture it until it grows into a major project I can visualize in my head.”

That’s the key.
 Most people dig up their seed(s) too early.
 They let circumstances, rejection, or bad news convince them it's not possible.

But if you’re blessed with a thought, plant it.
 Protect it.
 Nurture it.
 Visualize it.
 And don’t sabotage it with your own words, actions, or habits (nor anyone else's words, actions, or habits.)

This episode serves as a reminder to stop giving your energy to doubt and start directing it toward what you say you want. If people tell you you’re crazy, you’re probably on the right track.

WEBVTT

00:00:00.900 --> 00:00:01.110
All right.

00:00:01.110 --> 00:00:02.279
3, 2, 1. Let's get it.

00:00:02.729 --> 00:00:05.669
Plant the seed and protect it.

00:00:06.240 --> 00:00:14.310
This morning I was reading Born of This Land, and it's by Chung Ju-Yung, and he's the founder of Hyundai.

00:00:15.330 --> 00:00:19.230
And one passage really hit me hard.

00:00:20.774 --> 00:00:25.394
He said this, like all business people, a great idea starts with a single thought.

00:00:26.175 --> 00:00:38.140
And when a small idea, the size of a grain of rice is implanted in my mind, I nurture it until it grows into a major project I can visualize in my head.

00:00:38.579 --> 00:00:42.289
He said, this is his specialty, not just him planting the seed.

00:00:43.325 --> 00:00:45.965
But also in planting multiple seeds.

00:00:46.865 --> 00:00:55.744
In doing so, he would carefully consider each one as they grew and then choose which ones to cultivate.

00:00:56.774 --> 00:01:06.704
He went on to say that the desire for newer and bigger projects is the very source of energy for business people.

00:01:06.965 --> 00:01:23.959
That whole passage just, I. Ignited me so true because I believe that every great person, anyone who has ever moved heaven and earth, has achieved this trait.

00:01:24.859 --> 00:01:34.365
See when they're blessed, and I say blessed, when they're blessed with a seed of thought, they plan And they don't dig it up.

00:01:35.385 --> 00:01:41.691
They don't let circumstances, rejection or bad news pull that seed outta the ground.

00:01:42.302 --> 00:01:48.843
They don't let how things look right now change their belief in what's possible.

00:01:49.832 --> 00:01:50.703
They plant it.

00:01:51.558 --> 00:01:57.858
They nurture it, they focus on it, they visualize it, and they work toward it.

00:01:59.117 --> 00:02:01.847
That's a trait worth developing.

00:02:03.138 --> 00:02:12.622
If you're blessed with a thought, I want you to plant it, if it brings you energy, even if it frustrates you, because at times, man, it's going to frustrate you.

00:02:12.861 --> 00:02:15.872
That means you're on the right track plant it.

00:02:15.891 --> 00:02:17.632
If it's something you just.

00:02:18.067 --> 00:02:21.937
Incessantly, keep thinking about plant it.

00:02:23.106 --> 00:02:26.407
Not only plant it, but protect it.

00:02:27.456 --> 00:02:30.937
Don't let the environment, don't let the noise.

00:02:31.836 --> 00:02:33.667
Don't let someone else's opinion.

00:02:34.657 --> 00:02:38.347
Don't let what it looks like right now or in the near future.

00:02:39.516 --> 00:02:43.116
Don't let anything dig that seed up.

00:02:43.997 --> 00:02:46.366
And also don't limit yourself to one idea.

00:02:46.939 --> 00:02:50.449
To Chung, Ju-Yung's point plant, multiple seeds.

00:02:51.409 --> 00:02:52.250
They're yours.

00:02:53.330 --> 00:02:54.349
They're only yours.

00:02:55.129 --> 00:02:55.819
So plant 'em.

00:02:56.780 --> 00:03:03.349
And many times they're gonna connect in ways that maybe you couldn't have even predicted.

00:03:03.919 --> 00:03:07.370
So one seed, like many seeds.

00:03:07.985 --> 00:03:10.145
One seed influences another.

00:03:10.564 --> 00:03:15.335
One project may open up doors for something even bigger.

00:03:16.474 --> 00:03:22.384
Born of this land isn't just a story about Hyundai as a car company.

00:03:23.705 --> 00:03:34.728
Chung Ju-Yung built ships, highways, cars, and so much more, and it's not like he came from a privileged background either, bro.

00:03:35.177 --> 00:03:38.087
Like he was poor dude at times.

00:03:38.087 --> 00:03:42.258
They were so poor they had to eat tree bark to stay alive.

00:03:43.098 --> 00:03:45.348
His family did not have business ties.

00:03:45.557 --> 00:03:46.548
They were farmers.

00:03:46.788 --> 00:03:47.957
They had no education.

00:03:48.407 --> 00:03:52.877
As a matter of fact, his parents told him he was foolish.

00:03:53.358 --> 00:03:54.798
He would always be a farmer.

00:03:54.858 --> 00:03:57.361
He would be a nothing yet.

00:03:57.361 --> 00:03:58.951
He refused to dig up his seed.

00:04:00.122 --> 00:04:03.572
Most people give up because they think I can't do this.

00:04:03.632 --> 00:04:05.192
Not that it can't be done.

00:04:05.822 --> 00:04:12.002
They just reduce themselves so much, and my hand's raised on this.

00:04:12.901 --> 00:04:18.346
We reduce ourselves so much where we think that it's really for.

00:04:18.826 --> 00:04:27.956
Someone else who's talented, who's more skillful, who's more connected, who has more resources, and that's just not true.

00:04:28.517 --> 00:04:30.257
Here's the deeper part of the message.

00:04:31.098 --> 00:04:34.307
Once you plant the seed, this is super important.

00:04:35.598 --> 00:04:36.617
Plant the seed.

00:04:37.322 --> 00:04:42.392
Don't let circumstances, environment, rejection, how it looks right now.

00:04:42.392 --> 00:04:51.663
Don't, don't let any of that dig it up, but more importantly, when you plant the seed, don't do anything to sabotage it.

00:04:52.142 --> 00:04:53.822
See, that's at your own hands.

00:04:54.182 --> 00:04:58.052
Don't let any sort of destructive thoughts or speech.

00:04:58.983 --> 00:05:02.822
Poison it sometimes, dude, you gotta protect that at all costs.

00:05:02.822 --> 00:05:06.423
Sometimes you don't even, and you do that by not even talking about it.

00:05:06.872 --> 00:05:09.899
Don't let poor habits force you to backtrack.

00:05:10.557 --> 00:05:24.208
If your sleep, your diet, your relationships, your coping mechanisms are draining you, you won't have the energy or the clarity to tend to your seed.

00:05:25.028 --> 00:05:33.915
Every time that you have to go back and clean up a mess that you created, that's time and energy that's stolen from your future.

00:05:35.144 --> 00:05:37.334
You just move the seed around.

00:05:38.175 --> 00:05:41.204
You just moved it over and when it keeps getting moved.

00:05:41.720 --> 00:05:44.959
It doesn't foster the environment for it to grow.

00:05:46.310 --> 00:05:53.269
So what I want you to do is I want you to plant the seed, visualize it, protect it, breathe life into it.

00:05:53.689 --> 00:05:54.560
Don't dig it up.

00:05:55.189 --> 00:06:01.519
Don't sabotage it with your own behavior, and don't let anyone tell you it can't be done.

00:06:02.420 --> 00:06:03.500
And don't let anything.

00:06:04.415 --> 00:06:10.264
Regardless how it looks right now, you're only looking at the circumstances as it is right now.

00:06:10.535 --> 00:06:19.654
You're only taking some of your experience from the past and applying that through the lens of everything that you've seen.

00:06:19.925 --> 00:06:27.004
But what you see is not all there is plant It, protect it, nurture it.

00:06:27.665 --> 00:06:28.865
Don't sabotage it.

00:06:29.254 --> 00:06:30.964
Don't speak death into it.

00:06:32.285 --> 00:06:33.154
Speak life.

00:06:33.454 --> 00:06:41.908
Align your life, and damn it, if that's what you want, if that's what brings you energy, it's gonna come about.

00:06:43.125 --> 00:06:44.235
I'll leave you with this.

00:06:44.805 --> 00:06:49.785
If people tell you that you're crazy, you're on the right track.

00:06:50.055 --> 00:06:50.894
Let's get outta here.

00:06:50.954 --> 00:06:55.754
Thanks for sharing this episode with one person who needs to plant that seed.

00:06:55.935 --> 00:06:57.045
Keep it simple, keep it moving.

00:06:57.045 --> 00:06:57.555
Never settle.

00:06:57.555 --> 00:06:58.035
Stay tough.

00:06:58.035 --> 00:06:58.394
Peace.
