Have you ever asked someone how they are doing and they respond by saying, "Same shit, different day."
You might feel like you're working the same job, walking into the same rooms, dealing with the same people and problems.
But what if you started to see
new opportunities within those same environments
?
You don’t need a new environment.
You need new awareness.

Keep it simple. Keep it moving. Never settle. Stay tough.
00:00:00.719 --> 00:00:01.020
All right.
00:00:01.020 --> 00:00:02.129
3, 2, 1. Let's get it.
00:00:02.520 --> 00:00:08.160
You ever ask someone how they're doing and they hit you with the same shit different day?
00:00:10.650 --> 00:00:12.150
A phrase always sticks with me.
00:00:12.839 --> 00:00:16.410
Not because it's deep, but because it shows.
00:00:17.353 --> 00:00:28.754
How stuck we get, and honestly, sometimes the problem isn't our circumstances, sometimes we're just not seeing what's possible within them.
00:00:29.385 --> 00:00:36.765
This morning I was reading sticky notes, memorable Lessons from Ordinary Moments by Matt Egel, dinger.
00:00:37.393 --> 00:00:47.744
He's a sixth grade teacher who spent years collecting ordinary conversations and moments with his students on sticky notes and eventually turned them into a book.
00:00:47.804 --> 00:00:51.433
And I really liked the book because they were little short passages, man.
00:00:51.433 --> 00:00:55.634
They're just like little one pages and one story really stood out for me.
00:00:55.994 --> 00:00:58.604
It was about a student named Natasha.
00:00:59.384 --> 00:01:05.444
And she had to go into the hospital for surgery and was gonna have to stay there for a little while, for recovery.
00:01:05.715 --> 00:01:15.960
And so when Matt checked in with her family, they said that she was doing good physically, but that she missed her classmates a whole lot.
00:01:16.501 --> 00:01:29.471
So Matt decided to do something different about it, he took a few students and began logging into the game Minecraft during lunch to play with her online and it caught Fire.
00:01:30.161 --> 00:01:40.661
More students began playing with her after school, and even some of the kids who were being hospitalized joined into and before long this small idea.
00:01:41.305 --> 00:01:52.676
Turned into a big community, and Matt wrote, sometimes you think your class as a finite environment because you're in the same room all day and it feels restrictive.
00:01:53.486 --> 00:01:59.695
But we forget to realize that the confines of that place also have the ability to expand.
00:02:00.475 --> 00:02:01.825
That's what I think about the game.
00:02:01.825 --> 00:02:11.455
Minecraft, you can build whatever physical class you want, but given the opportunity, kids will take what you made and turn it into something better.
00:02:12.295 --> 00:02:18.026
That's the shift, same shift, different day, different perspective.
00:02:18.985 --> 00:02:29.425
You might feel like that you working the same job, walking into the same room, dealing with the same people, with the same problems day in and day out.
00:02:30.145 --> 00:02:32.936
But what if you started to see new opportunities?
00:02:33.850 --> 00:02:35.200
Within those environments.
00:02:36.100 --> 00:02:37.570
You don't need a new environment.
00:02:38.290 --> 00:02:39.670
You need a new awareness.
00:02:40.510 --> 00:02:53.320
Case in point, a new hire can walk into your job and see better, more efficient ways of doing something that you've been doing for years and you're like, oh my God, I didn't even know I could even do that.
00:02:54.520 --> 00:03:04.330
Someone else can walk into the same gym that you've trained at forever and transform their life using the same equipment that you barely even noticed.
00:03:05.020 --> 00:03:10.991
Someone else can open up YouTube and use it to learn, grow, and build.
00:03:12.461 --> 00:03:17.350
You can use social media for growth instead of gossip.
00:03:18.444 --> 00:03:25.435
You can also turn your commute into creative time instead of just burning gas and daylight.
00:03:26.455 --> 00:03:27.745
It's all about how you look at it.
00:03:29.155 --> 00:03:30.055
So let me ask you this.
00:03:30.055 --> 00:03:31.344
What's your Minecraft today?
00:03:31.854 --> 00:03:35.544
What can you build differently with what's already around you?
00:03:36.085 --> 00:03:39.324
That same shift doesn't have to feel like the same old shit.
00:03:40.284 --> 00:03:47.395
You've got the freedom and the responsibility to take what's been made and turn it into something better.
00:03:48.354 --> 00:03:49.074
Keep it simple.
00:03:49.104 --> 00:03:49.884
Keep it moving.
00:03:49.884 --> 00:03:50.514
Never settle.
00:03:50.514 --> 00:03:51.145
Stay tough.
00:03:51.145 --> 00:03:51.564
Peace.
